Bradyn Ledford, a perioperative nurse at St. John Medical Center used the art of emotional healing with a scared adolescent patient who had lost a finger during an accident and was awaiting surgery to reattach the finger. Bradyn went to the emergency department and calmed the patient, praying with him and letting him know that God was with him and was looking out for him during this frightening time. He made a balloon out of a glove and bandaged the glove finger that corresponded to the one the child lost, and wrote "feel better" on the glove. Bradyn lessened the child's anxiety as well as the parents', letting them know their son was in good hands with a great surgical team.
Bradyn always goes the extra mile with his kindness, compassion, skill, dedication, and a sense of humor that puts patients at ease. He provides a holistic care within the perioperative environment, during a time when patients are at their most vulnerable.
