Brandi Ganatra is an undeniable asset to CHI Health St. Francis and an incredible representation of compassionate nursing care.
I want to express my gratitude for the exceptional care provided by Nurse Practitioner Brandi Ganatra during a frightening moment in my life. I was recently sent to the Emergency Department for dangerously high blood pressure. When I arrived, I was all alone and scared. As a fellow nurse, I was acutely aware of the potential dangers associated with such high blood pressures, and my fear was amplified by recent personal losses. I was experiencing many unusual symptoms and was uncertain what to expect. Having two recent acquaintances who had recently passed away at a very early age, I was also anxious and thinking of my own family and what this hospitalization could mean.

Brandi was caring for me in the Emergency Department that day. She was so incredibly kind and compassionate. She explained everything she was doing and why she was doing it, regardless of my background as a nurse. My primary nurse had briefly stepped out of the room to get supplies, and Brandi was explaining the plan of care to me, preparing to leave to put in orders. My family had not yet arrived, and I was terrified of being alone, worried something might happen, and I wouldn't be able to call for help. I asked Brandi to please stay with me. Without a moment's hesitation, she moved to comfort me, assuring me she would stay right by me until my family arrived. She reached out and gently touched my leg – a simple gesture, yet one that instantly conveyed such a profound and reassuring presence. In that moment, I knew I was safe.

To this day, the memory of that simple act of compassionate care brings tears to my eyes. I understand the intense demands on healthcare workers and know the Emergency Department was busy that day. She could have easily said some words of reassurance and left me to tend to other patients, but she stayed by my bedside and entered her orders right there in my room. She made me feel so valued, heard, and undeniably safe.

A short time later, my family arrived, and as I continued to be evaluated, my symptoms worsened. Brandi did not delay; she jumped right into action and escalated my care to a Stroke Alert. The team worked quickly to get me all the necessary testing to ensure my safety. Brandi truly listened to all of my concerns and took the time to evaluate every one of my symptoms.

Later that month, when symptom exacerbation brought me back to the Emergency Department, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and gratitude to discover Brandi was on duty again. Her immediate familiarity with my medical history allowed me to relax knowing that I was going to get wonderful care again. Brandi Ganatra is an undeniable asset to CHI Health St. Francis and an incredible representation of compassionate nursing care. I feel profoundly blessed to have received care from her hands. This experience showed me that it's sometimes the smallest gestures – the touch, the reassurance, the presence – that have the most profound and lasting impact on a patient's feeling of being truly cared for and safe. This is a feeling for which I will always be thankful.
