As difficult as it was, because of her, my mom’s passing was peaceful, not only for her but for the family. All of our needs were met, so we could just concentrate on being there for Mom and helping her pass on.
My mother was admitted to the 8th floor MICU unit of Aurora St. Luke’s hospital with COVID, pneumonia, and sepsis, she passed the next day. Your floating nurse was her day nurse. She went above and beyond to walk our family through the end-of-life process with my mom. She explained every step in the process and what to expect. She was immediately available when we had questions or concerns. She made our family comfortable and provided us with a never-ending supply of snacks and drinks during the long day. She continuously checked in on us to ask if we needed anything and provided comfort to my dad, who is 89 years old, diabetic, and didn’t want to leave my mom’s side. She provided the family with warm blankets and helped us order lunch from the cafeteria. Adding to the stress, my phone was not charged, and I needed to call family and work; she was able to find a compatible phone charger at the nurse’s station that I could use to charge my phone and make my calls. After my mom passed, she approached my sister and I and gave us comforting hugs like she was part of the family, that huge gesture was so unexpected and appreciated! She even called me when I got home to let me know we left my mom’s pillow at the hospital. She bagged it up for us to pick up. As difficult as it was, because of her, my mom’s passing was peaceful, not only for her but for the family. All of our needs were met, so we could just concentrate on being there for Mom and helping her pass on. She mentioned to me that her passion is hospice care, and I truly believe that is her calling. Thank you.
