ACH's strives to make our clients' lives easier while providing quality healthcare. Nurse Brandi went above and beyond to do both in her efforts to assist a critically ill patient at the Rock County facility. As you all are aware, a patient was at your facility for three years pending trial. He had several trips to the hospital and his health was rapidly deteriorating. He required constant attention and assistance with all activities of daily living. With time, it became clear that he would need 24/7 care.
To help ensure he would get the healthcare he needed, Brandi contacted CNAs from a county nursing home to handle his growing medical needs. She called, scheduled and coordinated the CNAs around Rock County's schedule and the CNAs schedules - putting her own scheduling preferences last. Unfortunately, scheduling care started to become problematic with call in's and inconsistency.
Brandi could have stopped there. It is not in the Site Manager's role to have to push forward and develop solutions to benefit a single person. She took her Regional Nurse Manager leadership training to heart and began problem-solving the issue. Brandi went above and beyond to recommend that ACH hire CNAs for this patient and offered to take sole responsibility to be the new employee's supervisor. With approval, she took on the task of interviewing, hiring, scheduling and training the CNAs in addition to her regular site manager role, all while communicating the status to Rock County and ACH. As she did this, Brandi took further ownership of making sure the necessary medical equipment was onsite to take care of the patient's growing needs, which included renting a lift to assist in transferring him. She had really thought of all aspects of the situation.
After a period of time, the patient's health was not improving. Brandi took early action to find placement where his growing healthcare needs could be met. Due to his multiple hospital stays, it was established he was a candidate for hospice. Brandi then partnered with hospice and assisted with locating a nursing home who would accept the patient. Brandi's coordination and communication throughout this process helped to ensure the patient received the proper care for his condition.
Thank you, Brandi, for going above and beyond what is expected to ensure this patient received the medical care he needed. You made a difference in the life of this patient, Rock County, and Advanced Correctional Healthcare.
