I went into the Labor and Delivery department because I had not felt my baby move. I was 30 weeks pregnant with a baby girl who had severe heart defects. When I went into the room to be checked out, Brandi was the nurse. After confirming through ultrasound that my baby’s heart had stopped beating, I was scheduled for a C-section the following day. As you can imagine, this was a very, very difficult experience for my husband and me; the devastation was unbearable. I blamed myself, and Brandi was so kind and kept reassuring me that it was not my fault. She was there the day I had my C-section. Prior to going into the operating room, she asked what we would like her to do with the baby - bring her to me in the operating room or bring her to the recovery room. We wanted her brought to the recovery room. She bundled her up and took pictures of our sweet baby, clipped a piece of her hair, and did her foot prints that she later put into a keepsake box for us. She handed our baby to me when I got to recovery and told me how sorry she was, but that our baby girl was so perfect. I will never ever forget the kindness and empathy she showed me in this devastating time. I think about Brandi often and have been wanting to nominate her for awhile but didn’t know how to or if I was even able to anymore. I hope she wins this award because she is amazing and deserves it. Thank you so much, Brandi. You were an angel to me in a very low part of my life. You were the exact person my husband and I needed during that time.
