Brandon exemplifies the selfless, team-based, patient-focused attitude that I have come to admire in the operating room.

To my understanding, the DAISY Award is meant to commend nurses and nursing staff for the many times that they go above and beyond providing patient care. Often these awards go to nurses whom patients and their families interact with on the floors, while nurses in Operating Rooms can sometimes be overlooked. I do not say that to lessen their worthiness of awards as they are truly amazing, but rather to say that ignoring or not recognizing OR nurses would be to not recognize a MAJOR part of a patient’s hospital experience.

During my time in the OR, I have had the great privilege of working with countless men and women deserving of a DAISY Award. They care for patients when they need it most when they are unable to care for themselves. Rather than overwhelming you with nominations, I chose one man to nominate, whom I believe exemplifies the selfless, team-based, patient-focused attitude that I have come to admire in the operating room. That man is Brandon Davis. Brandon is always helping his fellow nurses and is the kind of guy you have to be careful what you say around because he won’t ask you if you need something, he will go and do it at a moment’s notice. This attitude of tireless dedication to optimizing procedures can be found throughout the OR, but Brandon in particular, exemplifies it.

My final example of his dedication to patient care is when Brandon volunteered without prompting to assist in an on-table bowel prep of a patient without hesitation. The patient had obstructing colorectal carcinoma and couldn’t prep for surgery necessitating the bowel prep. I don’t wish to be graphic, but needless to say, this was a job no one envied, but true to his character, Brandon didn’t even ask he simply knelt on the ground and made sure no waste was spilled on the floor and that the OR stayed as clean as possible. It was at that moment I knew I couldn’t go on without commending him for his countless actions to provide exemplary patient care.

Brandon Davis is worthy of this DAISY Award. If, for some reason, you have any doubts, please call me or ask anyone who works with him. We would be happy to provide further details.
