I have a rare disease relating to my mast cells activating inappropriately that causes me to have many allergic reactions. I avoid going to the ED at all costs as a majority of people don't understand my disease and don't listen/hear me when I try to explain it to them. Most of my ED visits I have another allergic reaction due to this. I have had Brandon as my nurse multiple times and not only did he hear me and go out of his way to prevent me from having an allergic reaction, but he was truly interested and asked me educated questions. After my first hospitalization where he took care of me, he remembered me and made sure subsequent hospitalizations he took care of me again. He immediately got supplies he knew I wasn't allergic to and I could hear him outside the room alerting anyone who was about to enter of the seriousness of my disease and my immunocompromised state.
I never worry when I see Brandon as I know he truly has my best interest at heart. He has prevented many reactions by alerting the attending provider they are about to give me a corn product that I cannot take due to allergies. I am very thankful he cared enough to learn about Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and understand where I am coming from.
