It is always the little things that make a difference when caring for others and this was witnessed by the attentive and caring nature of Brandy Bussing, RN. COVID has impacted the way we deliver care and it can be difficult for patients to be in the hospital for care when visitation and isolation precautions are needed. It is more important than ever that staff communicate and develop personal connections with patients to ease fears, anxiety, etc. Brandy demonstrated this when she floated to A3 Med/Tele. One of her patients stated he was an avid reader during his personal connection. Books were limited in the hospital setting and Brandy knew she had some old books at home she was going to donate. Knowing this and empathizing with being isolated, she made it a priority to come up the next day on her off shift to deliver the books to the patient. He was more than appreciative of this kind gesture, which allowed him a moment to forget and escape being hospitalized in these uncertain times.
