Unable to communicate any information to us, the simple writing of the given name set Brandy into motion.
Brandy RN is always willing to lend a hand in any situation in the ER and still provides excellent care for her assigned patients at the same time. During the early morning hours, a lost, cold, and nonverbal person with Downs Syndrome was brought into the ED via PD. Brandy was the first person to call and man did she deliver! Not only did Brandy pull up a chair with a piece of paper and gently manage to get this person to write their given name, she knew what to do next. With a quick phone call, Brandy knew whom to contact that could help her find someone that receives therapy and resides close to where the individual was found. Unable to communicate any information to us, the simple writing of the given name set Brandy into motion. Within minutes the phone rang and the person’s name, address and anything else needed was on the other end! The police returned to the address and once they made contact, the sleeping family was panicked then immediately overjoyed with the news of their loved one being found safe and will soon be returned to them. Minutes later the individual was escorted to the vehicle with a warm blanket covering them, feeling safe and on their way home! Without Brandy's knowledge, quick wit, and caring ways, things would have definitely not only been a huge challenge but a puzzle we would probably still be trying to piece together. Above and beyond isn't even close to what Brandy did for the ED but for the lost individual and family involved. It was one of the happiest moments we have ever seen in our department. Brandy deserves recognition and a spotlight for this act of unselfish kindness! She saved the day! I am thankful I was here to witness this event! She is a true hero!
