She kept me informed and was always a ray of sunshine with her smile, her teasing and just winning way.
The nurse I had for the last shift of my stay on the 6th floor was Brandy Zabinski. What a ray of sunshine she was when she came into the room, and it was on 100% of the time and felt so genuine. Her smile could melt a glacier. It was just so obvious how deeply she cares for her patients and how much she enjoys helping them. I felt like I was a whole human person with her, not a list of medical issues! She asked me about my life which resulted in several meaningful conversations while she was tending to my needs. She was always just so positive, and her positivity was so contagious (but no remedy is indicated for that!) She was good at explaining things as well. I remember when another staff member insisted that she needed to poke me for a blood draw when I was told in the ER that they would do all blood draws through my IV, she was quite brusque with me and did not really explain very well. Brandy was so understanding, sympathetic, but also explained nicely and clearly why once admitted that they needed to use a fresh poke for blood tests. She kept me informed and was always a ray of sunshine with her smile, her teasing and just winning way. She went out of her way to be helpful. If she had to leave and we had not finished a conversation about my care, she'd promise to come back right away, and she always did. She just had an aura about her that gave me confidence I could trust her implicitly. I felt I had more than a nurse, but a good friend for my brief time there. I have to say hands-down, she was the best nurse I've ever had: competence above and beyond, and bedside manner just exceptional! While I can't say I loved being in the hospital, she actually made my stay enjoyable and that is amazing. It made me feel especially proud when she told me she got her RN from Wayne County Community College, which is where I teach Biology to many aspiring nurses. She would be an excellent role model for them all! If there is an award for best nurse at HF Wyandotte, I would nominate her and vigorously campaign for her too!!!
