Bre is one of our most compassionate nurses on the unit. She is always willing to help and puts in the extra effort for her patients. She is known for giving the best baths and even providing bed-bound patients with a shower experience; she bought a shower hose nozzle and little tub to wash intubated/bed-bound patients' hair. This is such a big deal for patients because it makes them feel normal again during the worst times of their lives. Bre even keeps hair products in her locker for all types of hair: leave-in conditioner, detangler, and coconut oil. But that's not the only reason she is a DAISY Nurse.

On Medical ICU, we unfortunately have many deaths occur. We used to give these families handprint books, but we had to stop that tradition. Bre took it upon herself to come up with a way for our families to still have a way to remember the patients' last moments. She got the idea to print off the patient's last heartbeat for the patient's family members to take home, but she wanted it to be even more special. She got little glass bottles that are used to hold medications; she cleaned them out and took off the labels. Then she placed glitter inside the bottle and made a little hole to place a ribbon on the outside so the patients' families could hang them somewhere. She premade them so it's ready when deaths do occur on the unit, all that needs to be done is adding that patient's last heartbeat. This has changed many people's lives, and it gives them a piece of their family member to take home with them. This is just one of the many ways she gives back to her patients. Many people are in tears receiving this special blessing; some of the ribbons have crosses on them, and we let the family members pick the color of the ribbon (usually the patient's favorite color). Bre is always willing to go out of her way for her patients to make them feel comfortable. We are so blessed to have Bre as a part of our team, and every patient deserves a nurse like Bre!
