What stood out most, however, was Breana's kindness and dedication. Even after he was no longer officially under her care, she took the time to check in on him throughout our stay, offering support and reassurance when we needed it most.
My family and I would like to nominate Breana Million for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care she provided to our 10-month-old son during his recent hospitalization. During the heart of the holiday season, he was admitted to the Children's Hospital with a severe case of RSV. Instead of celebrating at home, we found ourselves navigating the overwhelming reality of having a sick child in the hospital. The holidays are a time when everyone's lives become even busier - nurses included - yet despite the demands of the season, Breana provided an unmatched level of care, compassion and dedication that made a world of difference for our family. One of our biggest struggles was balancing the critical care he needed with allowing him the rest required to heal. I shared my frustration with Breana that every time he finally fell asleep, it seemed time for another round of vitals, medication, or suctioning. Understanding how crucial rest was to his recovery, Breana immediately took charge of the situation. She implemented a method of cluster care, consolidating as many of his needs as possible herself, rather than spreading them across multiple caregivers, so he could get longer, uninterrupted periods of sleep. This simple but powerful change was exactly what he needed, and it made a significant impact on his recovery. Beyond her clinical expertise, Breana paid meticulous attention to the small details that often go unnoticed. She ensured his lines were free of tangles and that his nasal cannula was properly fitted, preventing the kinks that had previously caused confusion about the effectiveness of his high-flow oxygen. These details may seem minor, but they brought immense relief in an already stressful situation. What stood out most, however, was Breana's kindness and dedication. Even after he was no longer officially under her care, she took the time to check in on him throughout our stay, offering support and reassurance when we needed it most. Being in the hospital with a sick child during the holidays is incredibly difficult. But Breana made it a little easier. She showed us that even in the busiest and most stressful of times, true compassion and excellence in nursing shine through. Breana Million exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents - compassion, expertise, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to patient care. We are deeply grateful for the impact she made on our family during one of the hardest moments of our lives and she is more than deserving of this honor. With heartfelt gratitude.
