Her positivity, gentle words, and empathy help transform these difficult moments into ones where patients feel truly cared for and understood.
I would like to nominate Breanne Roderick for the DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional compassion, intelligence, and dedication she brings to our Breast Care department.

Working in breast imaging often involves caring for patients who are experiencing immense anxiety and uncertainty. Many of our patients undergo procedures that can be painful, and that may ultimately lead to life-changing diagnoses. Breanne consistently provides a calming presence. Her background as a former college-level field hockey coach is evident in her composure and encouraging spirit. She knows how to coach a patient through difficult moments. Her positivity, gentle words, and empathy help transform these difficult moments into ones where patients feel truly cared for and understood.

Breanne’s care doesn't end when the patient leaves the biopsy room. She calls patients the day after a biopsy to check on their recovery, a gesture that provides comfort during the "waiting period." When results come in, she sits with patients to review them, arranges surgical follow-ups, and, if a cancer diagnosis is confirmed, meticulously explains the road ahead. She ensures no patient ever feels lost in the system.

Beyond her comforting bedside manner, Breanne is a vital technical asset to our department. Recently, our team faced significant challenges with our MRI-guided biopsy process. We were struggling with software, connectivity, and procedural issues that were causing distress for both staff and patients. Breanne was instrumental in helping us refine the process, streamline these difficult biopsies, and directly improve the patient experience.

Breanne embodies every quality the DAISY Award represents. She is organized and smart, and she holds herself to the highest standards, yet she remains one of the kindest people in the department. She is the epitome of a team player. Whether she is planning our multidisciplinary conferences, providing compassionate care to our patients, or helping fellow nurses, she does so with a spirit of collaboration. She improves the way we practice medicine, and we are a better department because she is a part of it. I can think of no one more deserving of the DAISY Award than Breanne Roderick.
