Bree is the kind of nurse that shows extraordinary kindness and care for all of her patients and never would ask for recognition. She has a calming nature about her and makes everyone she encounters feel at ease. It's hard to narrow her excellence to just one patient story but she had a special connection with one patient in particular. This patient had a difficult family situation and spent many months with the team on our unit. Bree would sit and visit with her and advocated for a safe discharge, taking it upon herself to be a liaison between the patient and family members. The patient would call Bree from home just to check in and feel that connection. When the patient came back to us, she was not doing well. It was apparent that she was not going to be with us much longer. Bree spent time listening to her stories and looking at old videos. When the patient stated, "Wasn't I beautiful?" Bree said, "You are still beautiful." Bree would get her favorite foods from Fresh Market to encourage her to eat and drink. The patient often stated that the room she was in and the people who cared for her on our floor, but no one more than Bree. I know that when the patient took her last breath, she knew she was loved by Bree.
