As an individual ages, one learns the true understanding for compassion and the desire for healing in a time of need. Certain illnesses can evoke a shroud of concern and uncertainty of the next day, much less the next steps in treatment. This acute window of a medical condition is when a genuine, kind nature and gentle touch can give the power of hope through its simple offering. A spontaneous expression of assurance and belief in the work being done takes a patient and family to a place of hope and stability. A daily efficient display of skill and immediate responsiveness to questions or assistance with newly challenged activities of daily living makes one take pause to admire the patience, kindness, and consistent professionalism shown. A sign in the lobby states "a place of mutual respect & healing". Through a literal example of unwavering kindness and compassion, my mother's journey at Lovelace Downtown Hospital was tremendously impacted by truly amazing bedside nursing care. Our family will always remember the care provided by Brenda as an example of quality and pride in service provision for complete, "whole patient" care. ​
