Without Brenda’s courage, we could have seen a very different outcome from the events of this past year.
Brenda is one of our day shift Clinical Coordinators in Labor and Delivery. When she is on shift, she actively manages the labor unit, OBED unit, and OBSC unit. She is responsible for the staff and the patients we serve and we rarely see her without a smile on her face.
Brenda has naturally become the mother figure for all the nurses in our departments because of her empathetic and nurturing nature. She has a sixth sense when it comes to running the unit and caring for her patients.
Brenda’s sense of community can be seen every time she works: Whether it’s bringing in baked goods for all the departments to share or creatively collaborating with sister units in order to best care for our patients. She is constantly looking for ways to bring people together even under the most stressful circumstances. It’s near impossible to say no to Brenda because Brenda is the first to reach out a helping hand to you.
Brenda’s compassion in and outside of SW is a rare find. She is just a phone call away in a time of need and gives the best hugs when you didn’t know you needed one. Her compassion can be seen when she’s making staffing assignments and prides herself on being tough but fair. She runs the unit with transparency which makes the staff feel like a partner in planning and not just the worker to complete tasks.
Brenda is the first person to offer help when a heavy assignment is necessary. Brenda’s courage was evident all through the highs and lows of this pandemic. She was on the front lines during the freeze and an invaluable resource during this time in lockdown. Brenda also showed her courage by speaking up and out on behalf of the staff when we were experiencing workflow issues between the nursing and physician teams. Her courage has helped settle the staff and improve morale so that leadership could collaborate and implement changes to improve these workflow issues.
Without Brenda’s courage, we could have seen a very different outcome from the events of this past year. The staff depends on her unwavering leadership, her knowledge base, her moral support, and her positive energy. Brenda is a true gem to this department and we are grateful to have worked beside her and continue to be grateful for her and the role she serves here at MHSW. Thank you Brenda for all that you do!
