Brenda has shown great compassion, patience, empathy, unconditional human kindness and I feel she is a good role model for others.
What can I say? This nurse is amazing as with so many other nurses but Brenda has gone above and beyond her nursing duties with me. I had an appointment with the Dr months back and I was feeling very low that day. I was referred the day before by a physician from a completely different department, not gynecology, and their first impression of me was listed as "Morbidly Obese." I was quite down about this being listed as another provider's first impression of me. The first day I met Brenda for my Gynecological appointment she was so compassionate and very patient. She wanted to weigh me and I declined, and she said she understood and made me feel ok. When we went into the room I reluctantly confessed to her why I didn't want to be weighed, and she showed 100% empathy and put herself in my place and went on to say "yes, I don't like how they word those descriptions, they should stick to the BMI number instead of saying MORBIDLY OBESE." She made me feel not so alone, in fact, she made me feel that I wasn't alone in my hurt.
Months had passed, and I am in a weight program now, and part of my program is to get weighed in every week. Altru said I could get weighed in anywhere at Altru but knew there was only 1 person with who I felt comfortable weighing in. So I went to the 2nd floor Gynecology Dept and asked Brenda if she could do my weigh-ins, and she gladly obliged. In fact, she offered to fax my results every week. She was so compassionate, so empathetic, she never once made me feel embarrassed or ashamed. This is a nurse who didn't have to take time out of her day to do any weigh-ins but did because she cares. She always comes around the corner to do my weigh-in and signs my form with a pleasant smile and always wishes me a great rest of the day. I always feel better leaving there than before I get there.
