My wife was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer when she came in through the ER. Unfortunately, the cancer had spread and after only 1 chemotherapy treatment, her body could not recover. Just 3 short weeks later, having spent the bulk of that time in oncology, options to treat the disease were exhausted. I had to tell the love of my life, that the best course of action was to keep her pain-free and comfortable. Brenda sat with us, holding my wife’s hand as I struggled to get the words out through my tears. Brenda was empathetic and compassionate. She helped us beyond words. A few days later, my wife was moved back to the ICU. The next day, Brenda and another outstanding nurse visited us on the unit. There are many highly skilled nurses, and Brenda is certainly near the top of that list, but her CARING for the patient and their family sets her apart.
