Brenda's compassion, patience and kindness with me as I processed the hardest day of my life should not go unnoticed.
On 30 APR 22 My family decided to place my father in hospice care at Silver Cross. My family was devastated as we have never had to endure this type of hurt and pain. My father played an instrumental role in the upbringing of my siblings and I. He was an AMAZING father. At first introduction, Nurse Brenda was soft and very informative on what was taking place as my father made his transition. We were very emotional and confused on what exactly was taking place. I remember asking her various times what was happening as my Dad continued to move in discomfort. I wanted someone to tell me over and over he was not going to feel anything. Each time I asked her a question, Nurse Brenda spoke as if it was my very first time asking. Not only did she explain over and over, she always asked if i had additional questions. I remember a snack tray being brought into the room in the event we were hungry. We never asked, but I turned and it was there. She provided hot water and tea because I was cold. As my Dad continued to transition, it was time for us to let him go. Prior to me leaving, I kissed him and told him how much I loved him and once again I asked her about his pain. She explained her process and what was going to happen again. I was concerned because I didn't want him alone while he transitioned. She assured me she would be there. Initially, I was leaving the hospital, but decided to stay a while with my siblings in the waiting room. I sat there for at least an hour and a half. As we left, my brother went back into the room to check on my Dad. He was not in the room as she told me she would remain in the room. When he returned, he stated Nurse Brenda was still sitting in the room. I WAS FLOORED I immediately began to cry, She kept her word! Many people say things and when you aren't looking they do the opposite. Brenda's compassion, patience and kindness with me as I processed the hardest day of my life should not go unnoticed. Brenda is an EXTRAORDINARY person and deserves to be honored and MORE. You made the right choice when you hired her, she has the heart to be a Nurse. Nursing is assisting and providing service to the ailing. She not only did that, she restored faith in me again as it relates to trusting others. I am a first responder, and at times our profession does not allow us to see the best in people. I am honored to have met this young lady. I pray this acknowledgement reaches the right hands, as I would be honored to know she was recognized for a job well done, and her efforts to go above and beyond did not go unnoticed. May God Bless her!
