Brenda visited the patient every chance she had to hold his hand, to pray, and give words of comfort. She spoke with the family as if she were speaking to a member of her own family.
I have seen Brenda stay late, making sure that her assigned patients' issues are addressed and taken care of. She cries, prays, and laughs with her patients and the patient's family. She gains the trust and love of her patients and family members.
There was one specific patient that was under her care. He was very ill and going home on hospice. She visited the patient every chance she had to hold his hand, to pray, and give words of comfort. She spoke with the family as if she were speaking to a member of her own family. He eventually passed away but the very last memory I have of him is laughing with her as she told him some random story.
She encompasses everything that I believe a nurse should be. She reflects love, compassion, kindness, and true heartfelt emotions. That is just one short story of her day-to-day NP/Patient interaction. There are so many patients whose difficult journey through illness has been eased by her caring acts of kindness. She brings comfort to the patient and their family while being truthful, she is a very motivated patient/family advocate and truly honors the LLU values.
My thoughts and feelings are not unique as many have expressed their admiration for this NP.
