Brenda helped my husband when he was brought from the recovery room after his pacemaker and ablation surgery on Thursday. She greeted us in the waiting room and brought my husband’s daughter and me to where he was resting. She gave us a sense of relief immediately. She was so quiet, calm, and kind to all of us. She made sure R (my husband) had some nourishment he could handle after not eating for so long, suggesting ginger ale, crackers, and jello. This perked him up a lot and helped him become more alert. We asked her a lot of questions about his procedure and wounds. She was very clear in her answers and repeated them as many times as we needed to clearly understand what was going on. She helped him dress with dignity, showing me the special way I needed to help him put on his shirt or robe. She was exceptionally careful as R is 95. She made him physically comfortable and me mentally comfortable. She gave excellent explanations of all the instructions for me to care for him at home and what would happen next in his care path to recovery. She gave us the wound care items we needed so we did not have to rush to a drugstore at 8:30 at night. She is a true asset to the UPMC staff. I am so thankful she was our nurse.
