Brenda was helping a patient with her discharge orders and prescriptions when the patient and family present realized that their insurance would not cover certain medications, and they could not afford them. Brenda contacted the provider and pharmacy several times each to try to find suitable substitutions which were affordable. In the end, she went to pharmacy and picked up the medications and paid for some of the medications out of her own pocket. She then gave them to the patient with no mention of having paid for some of them, just saying, "You're all set." The look of relief on the patient's face was very obvious. This was all done very quietly and, I imagine, with the intention of being unnoticed.
