My mom was admitted to the hospital with a UTI, fractured ribs, and was also severely dehydrated. The initial doctor told my family that they didn't think my mom would make it. My children and I traveled to Muscatine to visit, thinking that this would be the last time that we would be seeing her. It was a very emotional visit. Brenda was very patient and informative, and even went above and beyond to get permission for my boys, who are 8 and 10, to speak with their grandma for a few minutes. She didn't rush them and was very respectful and understanding in my family's time of need. She allowed us to visit but also made my mom's health a priority and kindly let us know that visiting hours would be over for the day. You typically run into nurses who are stressed with their jobs, just trying to make it to the end of their shift, and unwilling to take care of a family's needs as well. Brenda exceedingly went above and beyond, and on behalf of my family, we want to nominate her for a DAISY Award and just thank her for having the attitude, kindness, and patience that we needed while going through the situation with my mom. Fortunately, my mom is still with us, and because of Brenda, as well as the other nurses, my family's experience was something that will never be forgotten.
