Twice in the past week, Brenn has taken the time to help with IV access on a patient that he was not assigned to. On a Saturday night, a patient came in with a PICC that was clotted. IV therapy was not able to come for a while to see the patient. The patient needed IV antibiotics. Brenn took the time to look at this patient and got an IV in her so her treatment could be started. Also, on Sunday night, a hem/onc patient was in the ER. The patient's port, a cath, was not working and needed to be tpa-ed. While that was going on, the patient needed to have a peripheral IV placed so that he could have labs drawn and be started on antibiotics. The patient wanted a nurse from the 9th floor to place the IV rather than the EU nurse. Brenn took the time to go down to the EU with me to also place an IV on this patient.

Brenn's actions with both patients lead to safe and effective care. Working on a floor with patients who all have central lines, I personally do not have peripheral IV placing experience/skills, so it is very helpful to have a nurse who is willing to help during these situations. Taking the time out to also go down to the ER to help a patient provided exceptional service to these families.
