We were fortunate enough to meet Brennan at the very start of our daughter's journey. That first night in the hospital was beyond over-whelming, but Brennan put us all at ease right away. She is calm, compassionate, energetic, and extremely skilled.
It is a rare combination of fun and professionalism that can put both our daughter and I at ease. Our daughter immediately relaxed around Brennan and although we haven't had her as the nurse as often as we'd like, she's made a major impact.
I will never forget a night last year when our daughter's PICC line developed a blood clot. Our daughter had been having so much trauma that stay, she was just terrified to get the line removed. Brennan calmly pulled me aside and let me know how risky it was to let the line stay in overnight and offered to stay late enough that night to let some sedatives kick in and then remove the line. Brennan was able to convince our daughter to let her remove the line, but in doing so, she had to stay late. She was there two hours past her double shift. Her dad was in the lobby reading a book because he had come to pick her up in a snow storm.
That dedication cannot be taught, it is who she is. She deserves to be recognized for her extraordinary passion and skill. I have seen her teaching others, and have seen other nurses emulating some of her best qualities, and am blown away by their respect for her. She is a nurse who cares about each child and is consistent in providing superior care.
