Brett has been a wonderful addition to our 4 East day shift family. She is kind, very professional, and always puts patient care first. She has learned how to utilize her de-escalation skills and intervene when some of our psychiatric patients become agitated and out of control. Brett is able to diffuse the situation at hand and help to re-establish control for the patient. Brett always offers to help other staff, both RNs, and PCAs, when she has the chance. She is the kind of nurse that you want to take care of your loved one as she goes above and beyond to provide excellent psychiatric care.

Brett obtained her ANCC psychiatric nursing certification and is buddying up with other RNs to assist them with obtaining their certification as well. Brett is ALWAYS mentioned in our patient satisfaction surveys with several patients suggesting she get a raise as she truly goes the extra mile with patient education. She is able to meet the patients halfway and help them to see what treatment goals should be reached while here on 4 East. She has developed a strong sense of self and feels very comfortable notifying the psychiatrist of any concerns that she may have.

Brett is often seen pulling up a chair in the patient’s room and letting them know that they are important and worthy of a longer nursing intervention. This helps to establish a trusting relationship and gives the patient an opportunity to open up about issues that may be difficult to talk about. Family members often call the unit asking specifically for Brett because she has made such a positive impression on them and their loved ones during admission assessment. We are very fortunate to have an excellent psychiatric nurse work with our 4 East family!
