February 2026 Honoree
Brett E. Walker, BSN, RN, CPAN
She was amazing. I had major surgery that could have negatively impacted my life. After the procedure, I had an epidural in place, which my body had a negative response to, and my hemoglobin dropped to 6 g/dL. Her response was quick and accurate. I nearly went unresponsive, and she helped me regain consciousness. She notified the appropriate parties, and she held my hand. I am an ICU nurse. This illness is the first time I’m on the opposite side. Being a patient is hard, especially when you lose control of the situation. I was disoriented; I was afraid. I needed a good, competent nurse with critical-thinking skills and compassion, and I am so glad she had them. I’m beyond appreciative that I'm still alive today to write this, thanks to her quick reaction. Keep being compassionate. But most importantly, keep being wise and quick in your reactions. You helped me when I couldn’t help myself. Thank you.
Thank you, Brett E., for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
