Even though my dad was subdued, it was clear that Brett saw my dad as a person, a father, a husband, and a friend. We will never forget the empathy he showed our family.
Our family met Brett on one of the hardest days of our lives. Losing a loved one is never easy, but the care that Brett gave my dad, and our family will always be remembered.
The moment our family stepped into my dad’s hospital room, our hearts sank, and our eyes filled with tears. Immediately, Brett introduced himself and offered us a moment to take it all in. When he reentered the room, he began explaining what we were seeing. The beeping machines, the IVs, each piece of equipment, and every monitor… he explained it all. Brett answered question after question from me with thorough and simple language. He has a unique gift for breaking down complex medical jargon into easy-to-understand language.
After we were informed of my dad’s condition, Brett took the time to establish a trusting relationship with us by asking questions about Dad and listening to stories of better days. He pulled up a chair next to my mom, offering comfort and listening intently to the priceless memories we shared. Even though my dad was subdued, it was clear that Brett saw my dad as a person, a father, a husband, and a friend. We will never forget the empathy he showed our family.
Seeing that our family needed rest and time to process the tough decisions we were about to make, Brett sent us home, promising to contact us if my dad’s condition worsened. Brett didn’t hesitate to make the call to our family, explaining in detail what he observed and that, through his experience, he was sure there wasn’t much time left. His sense of urgency ensured that we were with my dad in his final moments.
One of Brett’s greatest gifts is his comforting and understanding demeanor. When deciding it was time to let my dad go, our family felt informed and validated because of the thoroughness and compassion that Brett gave us regarding my dad's condition. Our family communicated that we would like to be there in his final moments. His presence alone brought us a sense of calm and reassurance during this time. How we will remember our last moments with my dad, filled with peace and love, will forever be touched by the care Brett gave not only him but our family. No words on a page, written by the most gifted writer alive, could match the immense gratitude our family feels for Brett. God blessed our family that day by placing Brett with our dad. Losing a loved one is hard, but Brett's compassion will forever live in our hearts.
