Brett cared for a patient who has been chronically ill, in and out of the hospital, most recently ours. When she came to our ER again, she apologized for returning but felt so sick still. Brett greeted this patient and told her not to worry, she is in wonderful hands and we will help her. As he continued to care for her, he took his time listening to her story, then told her to hold on. When he returned to the room, he brought paper and a pen and said, "it's time to start writing your book". This patient has since begun writing and is 6 pages into it. When asked about it, the patient stated, "I had always wanted to write my story but never found the right moment but here it is, he helped me". The patient continues to state that she feels like she is in a dream with how exceptional this experience has been.
