Dependable. Knowledgeable. Hard Working. Compassionate. TEAM PLAYER. Heart of Gold....These are all words that describe my colleague, partner in crime, LEAD RANCHER, and someone I look up to in so many ways!! This nomination is long overdue to describe how much of an asset Brett is to 9Trauma and to me as a nurse and a friend. I admire him in so many ways....as a nurse but most importantly as a person! Brett is always the first person to sign off a dual RN med and to help with any cares/turns/medication.

In one instance in particular, Brett drove to the VA after work to take a Veteran's (patient's) belongings to him since we had no other way to deliver them to a discharged patient. Brett has helped me with countless Foley insertions (that took hours), IV insertions, and even the many nights he spent sitting with me and a high fall-risk patient for 2 hours after a shift had ended to make sure the patient did not fall and was safe to leave with night shift. I have also had many patients who were high violence risk and many difficult patients that Brett gladly helps manage. Brett has de-escalated many of our violent/difficult patients and stepped in to make sure everyone else was safe. Brett will be the first one to help others first and end up staying late to finish his work.

I could go on about the countless examples of how Brett has helped me and the entire floor each and every day. He is the backbone of this floor and never uses his 30+ years of experience and wisdom to stop learning or place himself above anyone else. Brett never wants to be the center of attention and would not want me to nominate him for anything, but he is beyond deserving of the DAISY Award! I am so thankful for Brett!
