Brett was behind her telling her it's the best thing for her and comforting her to tell her it will be ok.
My wife has cancer. She first came to Abington Hospital for a blockage in her colon and had an ostomy bag placed. During that visit, she met Brett; from day one of meeting him, you could tell he cared. Brett was very professional and took any time my wife needed to explain and answer any questions she had. Her goal was to get home and start immunotherapy. Brett, the entire nursing staff, and the doctors did everything in their power to make that happen after 3 weeks in Abington Hospital.

She did make it to her first immunotherapy appointment, but unfortunately, she could not receive it due to her kidneys going into failure. So, she ended up back in Abington Hospital to receive urostomy bags. She spent 3 and a half weeks in there, and Brett shined through as one of her favorite nurses, with a smile on his face, always willing to talk about anything and make sure my wife understood the medical side of what was going on with her. Anything to comfort her. Again, the awesome staff here did everything in their power to get her home and to immunotherapy. She did make it home to receive 2 immunotherapy treatments, unfortunately 6 days after the 2nd treatment she had to come back to Abington ER to get a ultrasound for blood clots and a CT scan for a possible new blockage in her stomach. Again, she comes back up to the unit and sees Brett.

During this visit, she made a trip to the ICU to receive an NG tube to relieve the pressure. Brett was behind her telling her it's the best thing for her and comforting her to tell her it will be ok. She gets released from the ICU on Friday and back to the unit. We see Brett and a smile on his face that she was able to get out of the ICU and back to his floor. Sunday, towards the end of his shift, she started to have some issues: high heart rate, low oxygen level, and starting to throw up due to the blockage in her small intestines. Brett jumped into action and placed an NG tube in my wife, stayed past his shift, and continued to work on my wife; he continued to come out of the room and update me on what they were doing to level her out.

At about 9:30 pm, he had a talk with me and told me not to leave my wife tonight. He wasn't sure if she was going to make it. I saw the pain in his eyes, the concern on his face. He is a nurse who truly cares; there aren't enough words to tell him my appreciation for his words and his compassion for my wife; his heart is as big as the world. I will never be able to show my full appreciation to him for what he has been for my wife and family. He is a star and should be recognized. I believe he is meant to be where he is as a nurse and human being. I will never forget him.

Note: This is Brett's 2nd DAISY Award!
