Brett is a nurse in the Hyperbaric-Wound Care Center at SLMC. He transitioned to our area earlier this year and has trained to hyperbaric emergency ICU/on-call team as a secondary position. We treat hyperbaric patients of all ages and occasionally a series of pediatric patients in collaboration with Children's Hospital. Brett was assigned to treat a 3-year-old child who needed hyperbaric for a serious condition. The little girl fell in love with Brett immediately. He gained her trust by playing, reading, and wearing a hyperbaric hood just like her. He volunteered twice to come in on off days for continuity of care. He completed 5 of the 6 treatments she had her so far. His compassion, ability to relate as a father exemplifies that of a true DAISY Nurse. It was amazing to watch and brought tears to our eyes.
