Because of Brian and how he always goes above and beyond, that in turn helps remind us to strive to be the best.
Brian Elmore, BSN, RN, CCRN is the nurse manager MICU and role models extraordinary behavior:
Extraordinary is the exact word to describe Brian when speaking to his behavior. His "yes" first attitude and patient-first mentality are the examples that our team needs during these challenging times. Always a team player. No task is too small or too big. He always jumps in and always has a positive attitude. Leads by example.
He is always ready to listen and help with decision-making. He is willing to talk with family members while we care for the patient. Never too busy to help or listen.
Brian backs his staff 100% and is always ensuring that we are all taken care of along with providing extraordinary care for each patient assigned to him we no other option is available. He truly is The Best Leader!
Brian Elmore is the epitome of extraordinary behavior; his poise, self-discipline, and determination during this pandemic have been extraordinary. Brian continues to lead his team while very often putting himself in the staffing rotation so his team's needs and our patient's needs can be met. Brian always has a can-do attitude even when things are really, really bad.
Brian's unit (MICU) has been very hard hit with the pandemic. His unit has seen so much suffering and death. He has led even when I feel certain he felt like quitting. Brian puts his team's needs and the patients' needs before his own. He demonstrates confidence, compassion, and resilience more than any one person in my opinion. He has cried with his patients and his team... he demonstrates everything our mission stands for. He is the face of caring.
Creates an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development, and ethical behavior are modeled and supported.
Always professional and kind towards everyone. Steps up and always does what is right for the patient. Always solution-focused.
Teambuilder in the ICUs. He creates and stimulates an attitude of teamwork and doing what is in the best interest of the patients. Their safety and care are always his primary concern.
Goes out of the way to foster an environment of caring not just to patients and family but to his staff as well. He treats his staff members like family members. During this COVID pandemic, I as a MI Team Leader had to move departments due to my pregnancy. Brian again demonstrated how much a fantastic leader he is by helping me through the process and taking on the challenges of a team member learning. He never complains. He always has a solution and he always does it with a smile. He definitely knows how to lead a team during a pandemic! He's a Rock Star!
Brian's team trusts that he will always strive to get them all the tools necessary to continue to extend the Healing Ministry of Christ. Brian is always kind and professional even during times of great strife. He demonstrates composure and finesses even when situations are tense and emotion-laden. He models professionalism and is mutually respected by his team and other leaders within the facility.
Motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for their patients.
Brian has come in and taken care of patients to help when short-staffed even on night shifts promoting teamwork. He provides a clear vision of health goals.
He always pushes for better care and advanced treatment of our patients wanting us to grow and become better caregivers. Brian would never make an assignment that he himself would not take.
Brian is encouraging to staff members and is ready to give an ear to listen and uplift staff and other employees. He steps up each day during COVID-19, with words of encouragement, praise and serves as a mentor to us all.
Brian rolls up his sleeves and works alongside his team. He is "always in staffing" and never too busy to help his ICU team. He has been instrumental in helping other departments within the hospital with a "train the trainer" model for the half mask rollout. His unit was the first to utilize this type of respirator. As we rolled the respirator to other COVID units in the hospital, Brian has never said "no" to training others in this initiative. He recognizes the importance of safety which in turn, helps the caregivers at the bedside who in turn enhance patient outcomes.
Promotes and enhances the image of nursing within the organization, the community, and the profession.
Brian continuously promotes all staff to be the best they can be and has the same standards for himself. Because of Brian and how he always goes above and beyond, that in turn helps remind us to strive to be the best.
He is the very definition of a leader, colleague, and exceptional nurse in the ICU. He embraces the nursing profession. He always has a kind word of encouragement. Brian is truly the very image of a Nurse Leader. He always leads from the front.
Brian is a great role model for his staff. He takes your ideas and concerns to heart and then lets you know about the follow-up good or bad.
He gives 100% of himself every day he works.
Brian is professional. In his mannerisms, his communications, in the performance of his duties, and during interactions with all members of the hospital. He is seen as a professional leader in the faces of our patients and their families. Brian is very much the image of nursing in every way examined. He has examined the "rules" during end-of-life situations to ensure we always do the "right thing" for patients and their family members when death is imminent. Juggling the rules, pathogen transmission, and family's needs are not often easy tasks to perform. Brian enlists the right people to ensure our mission focus is maintained.
I recall him working with a positive spouse whose wife was dying in MICU. It was during the time that N95's was scarce, and the supply of such masks was questionable. After seeking out guidance, Brian fitted the spouse with an N95 so he could be with his wife during her last breaths. An example of doing the right thing while balancing other factors. He "maintains" even when things are so bad. His COVID ICU has borne the brunt of so much suffering and dying this year, never has Brian's dedication or composure waivered!
