August 2026 Honoree
Brian Horn, RN
I was having a lot of anxiety about my first colonoscopy. Brian came out and calmly explained what the procedure would be like and what I could expect. He reassured me that they do many of these procedures every day and that I have nothing to worry about. He even tried to make me laugh when I burst into tears, explaining why I was so nervous.
He also was my post-op nurse and took good care of me, but more than anything, his reassurances at the start of the process helped me get through it.

Yesterday I had my first colonoscopy. Leading up to it, I had heard that the prep was the hardest part, but for me, the hours leading up to the procedure were the hardest part. I was overcome with anxiety all morning.
When we checked in, my partner asked the person at the front desk if a nurse could come out and answer some questions for me to help me feel better. Brian came out and introduced himself. He explained what I could expect in a lot of detail. He asked me what I was nervous about. He listened with nonjudgmental eyes as I tried to share my fears as I fought back tears. He patiently answered all of my questions.
He assured me that they do many procedures each day and that I was in good hands. He even made me laugh a little, which was quite a feat given my mental state.
Brian was also my post-op nurse and did a fantastic job taking care of me. The care from the whole team was fantastic, but Brian's care really stood out as extraordinary.
In the hours leading up to my procedure, I was terrified, but Brian went above and beyond to try to alleviate my fears and take care of my mental health in addition to my physical health
