Brian was calm and serious and handled the emergency well.
My daughter has been receiving treatment for osteosarcoma since April. We have been to the ER multiple times for a neutropenic fever. A few months ago, Brian happened to be her nurse and he had such a great bedside manner. He had great energy and took an interest in talking with her and finding common interests. He was also very knowledgeable and one of the few ER nurses who was able to access her port on the first try, confidently and with no issues.

Fast forward to today and my daughter was again admitted for a neutropenic fever following recent chemo. The nurses she had did have trouble accessing her, having to stick her twice and one of the times was pretty painful. While we were in the room Brian from our previous visit saw my daughter's name and decided to pop in and say hi. He chatted with Abby for a few minutes, about football and things he remembered about her. It was nice to see a familiar face. They started her on antibiotics, and we were just waiting for them to send us to a room when all of a sudden Abby started to feel hot and about to pass out. I told the nurses, and they came in quickly and assessed that she wasn't doing well. Her blood pressure had dropped drastically, her heart rate was in the high 180s, and her oxygen was low. Things got a little crazy as they do when there is an emergency. They moved us to a bigger room and started multiple forms of treatment with many personnel involved. Brian was one of the medical team who responded, and he quickly went to work. While working, he took time to comfort both me and Abby and inform us as much as he was able what was going on. He invited me to stand by her bedside and assured me I was not in the way. He was calm and serious and handled the emergency well. As she started to feel better, he also chatted and joked with her.

It was comforting to have a familiar face with us, who knew her story and cared about her as an individual, as well as someone knowledgeable and confident in treating her. I felt that she was in the best hands possible and I'm thankful he was there today. All of the doctors, nurses, RTs, etc. handled everything well with good communication and quick action. I am thankful for her whole medical team but wanted to single out Brian for going above and beyond.
