My dad was originally scheduled for surgery at 3:15. For some reason, he was unable to go to the OR until about 5:40. During his time in pre-op, my dad appeared to be more comfortable than his previous 24 hours in the hospital. Due to his injury, pain meds weren’t very effective. Because of Brian’s nursing skills, as well as his humor, my dad's time spent in pre-op was filled with conversation and laughter. Brian went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable through pharmacological methods, and he was kept distracted by conversation. Although pain was unavoidable, the 3 hours spent waiting for surgery went by the quickest due to Brian’s care and compassion. Right before my dad went into surgery, we also witnessed Brian jump a counter at the nurse’s station to put himself between a combative patient and his co-worker. He truly went above and beyond to ensure not only patient safety and comfort, but he also looked out for his fellow co workers.
