We had a patient, L, here on ECMO for several months. L was admitted with COVID & had to deliver her baby, but was unable to bond appropriately due to COVID and her being sedated/ intubated. Briana went out of her way to obtain a stuffed animal from the pediatric house and recorded L's heartbeat onto the insert in the stuffed giraffe so that her newborn baby could hear his mother's heartbeat. L passed away today. Briana went way above and beyond by thinking to do this for L's baby. He will never be able to hug his mother or hear her heartbeat again by laying on her chest as a baby should be able to. But he will FOREVER be able to cuddle with his giraffe and hear his mother's heartbeat due to Briana's thoughtfulness.
