Her humility and dedication made it clear that my mother wasn’t just a patient; she was a person deeply valued.
During my mother’s recent hospitalization for cardiac and pulmonary complications – including repeated episodes of chest pain – we were blessed with a nurse whose care I will never forget.

From the moment she entered the room, Briana brought a calm confidence and a warmth that put both my mother and our entire family at ease. She wasn’t just technically skilled; she cared for my mom’s physical, emotional, and even spiritual needs with the depth of compassion that exceeded anything we expected.

What stood out most was how she stayed by my mother’s side long after her shift technically ended, making sure she was settled, comfortable, and safe. She didn’t rush, didn’t delegate the hard tasks, and never acted like anything was “beneath her”. In fact, she jumped in to do things a CNA would do – bringing her dinner, helping her reposition, giving her a shower, offering comfort – because she came from that world and never lost the heart behind it.

Her humility and dedication made it clear that my mother wasn’t just a patient; she was a person deeply valued.

She truly listened – not just to symptoms, but to fears, questions, and concerns. She explained the medical situation clearly, helped us understand our options, and made sure my mother felt involved and supported in every decision.

She checked in frequently, even during busy moments, and anticipated needs before we could voice them.

When I had to take my family to a previously planned Nutcracker performance, she offered to contact me personally with any updates and assured me she would contact me immediately if anything changed. Her willingness to go above and beyond allowed me to leave the hospital with peace, knowing my mother was in the hands of someone trustworthy, attentive, and genuinely caring.

This nurse embodied everything nursing should be: skilled, paired with heart; professionalism, paired with humanity; and confidence, paired with compassion.

She made my mother feel safe, respected, seen, and cared for – and gave our family the gift of peace during a frightening time.
