While no one enjoys an ER visit, my friend was particularly apprehensive about coming in tonight because she has been dismissed and belittled by medical staff throughout her life. She was terrified she would be treated like a burden and that no one would listen to her or help her.
Bri was perhaps the best nurse we could have been blessed with. She showed so much respect and consideration for my friend from the moment she entered the room until we were discharged. She was warm and genuine and obviously cares for her patients. She explained every single thing she was doing and why and she kept a fun conversation going that put my friend at ease through everything—-an impressive feat considering the pain and fear she was experiencing.
Bri truly embodied the role of a nurse. She provided comfort, and she followed policy in only making two IV attempts and never attempted to “dig” or push far enough to blow a vein. She saved my friend so much pain by just doing her best and then quickly enlisting the help of a more experienced nurse. She also stayed the entire time the other nurse was gaining IV access and drawing blood, clearly watching her technique so she could learn and also continuing the jovial conversation.
Bri cared more about upholding policy, sparing her patient unnecessary pain, still ensuring there was no delay in care, learning from a colleague, and making an unpleasant situation as light and fun as possible than continuing a task to protect her ego.
She was very knowledgeable and answered every question and kept us updated throughout the stay. She actually took the time to explain the discharge instructions and make sure we had every single thing we needed before we left.
After so many negative experiences with healthcare workers, Bri was a reminder that despite the frustrations of being a healthcare worker in recent years, some are truly still there for the patients. 12/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone who needs emergency care. The world desperately needs more nurses like her.
