I am a novice nurse that started working on High Risk Perinatal last July as a new graduate. I am thrilled to nominate Bridget Esibe, RN for the DAISY award. Bridget is a wonderful and compassionate nurse who is a good team player and a natural leader. When I started on the unit, she used her leadership skills to step up as my preceptor. She was such a knowledgeable and helpful preceptor for three months when I was orienting to the unit. It was already a challenge to orient a new nurse, but it was an even bigger challenge a new nurse on a specialty unit with no experience. Bridget took on this challenge with open arms. She is not only a compassionate caregiver, but she is a compassionate teacher. I learned so much from her and she continues to teach me a year later. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Bridget’s help. I always feel comfortable going up to Bridget and asking questions. Bridget welcomes questions and teaching opportunities with open arms, and I am truly thankful to her.

Bridget’s not only a great teacher, but also a spectacular coworker to other employees on the unit. Bridget is always one of the first nurses on the unit to volunteer to help another nurse or help with admissions. When things get chaotic as they often do on this unit at times, we can always count on Bridget to help. I know several instances where Bridget helped myself and other nurses. I can specifically remember one instance when I was newly off orientation and was officially a novice RN on High Risk Perinatal. Things often become chaotic on this unit from 1500-1900 when several admissions begin to come in. It was 1900, which is change of shift, and one of my patients started having fetal heart rate decelerations. A majority of the staff members were giving report in patient rooms. I pulled the emergency cord as a novice RN for help as the fetal heart rate was not improving, and Bridget was the first face I saw come running into the room. She used her leadership skills to help guide me through this crisis and we working together as a team to stabilize the patient.

I sincerely hope that you will consider Bridget for the DAISY award. She truly deserves recognition for her dedication to the patients and her coworkers on High Risk Perinatal. Bridget not only deserves this award for what she has done for this unit, but for what she continues to do on this unit. At this time, Bridget is showing further leadership by orienting two new employees to High Risk Perinatal.
