She spends extra time with them to learn about the life that the patient wants to return to, utilizing this as motivation as she medically manages the patient.
Bridget manages critically ill patients in our Gibbon and JHN Neuro ICUs, providing complex medical care to patients with acute brain injury and multisystem failures. Bridget is known for her approach to patients. Her calm, tolerant, and quiet demeanor almost immediately gains every patient and family member's trust. Known for taking the time to get to know patients on a personal level, Bridget forms a strong connection with patients and families alike. She sees the person she is treating, not just the name on her patient list. In a unit that deals with patients and family members experiencing the worst day of their lives, she is often found to provide guidance and support in the most stressful of times. She spends extra time with them to learn about the life that the patient wants to return to, utilizing this as motivation as she medically manages the patient. Understanding that medical care must be treated holistically, she can often be found advocating for our therapy colleagues, social workers, and case managers to ensure the patient's needs are met upon discharge. Bridget consistently remains calm and organized during emergencies, often pushing the team around her to maintain composure to care for the patient safely. Her critical thinking and intuition remain unmatched. Her need for constant learning drives her to seek out knowledge, showing how she manages patients consistently, and she is often found researching small details of a patient case she cannot discern. Armed with new knowledge, she is the first to teach the nurses and clinicians around her how to best care for the patient. Well-respected amongst her physician and nursing colleagues, Bridget is known for her character and reputation as a nurse practitioner, consistently providing excellent clinical care within our units. She continually changes the lives of the patients she manages; we are lucky to work alongside her.
