Bridget came on duty in the emergency room on the second shift. She was efficient, thoughtful, and concerned for my care.

After reviewing my lab work, she had a gut feeling that the results were not accurate. She notified the doctor and asked him to review the results again. Once the doctor looked at my history and the lab work that had been taken, he realized the lab results were spurious and didn't reflect my condition.

I had been given 4 bags of potassium, magnesium, and 4 additional bags of potassium had been ordered. Once Bridget alerted the doctor, and he reviewed the labs, the additional bags of potassium were canceled. I was given a solution to counteract the potassium that had been given, and was asked to stay the night for monitoring.

If Bridget hadn't been so concerned for my health and willing to step in and question procedures, I could have had a serious cardiac event. The hospital has coded this as a "near miss.” I was fortunate not to have any serious repercussions. I owe this to Bridget, a competent nurse who truly desires to help her patients!
