This nurse went above and beyond when they sat with me while I cried, making sure I wasn’t alone.
I am 23 years old; my boyfriend P is also 23 years old and was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in January. We were told he had 1-2 years. He was admitted for a lengthy 2.5-week stay after having a big seizure. The oncology/palliative care team came in on an especially hard day (the one-year anniversary of his diagnosis) to tell us that they recommended hospice for P and told us he might only have 6-8 weeks left to live. This news was also given the day before my birthday, so I was a complete wreck. P and I have been together for 6 years.

This nurse went above and beyond when they sat with me while I cried, making sure I wasn’t alone. They treated me as if I was one of their family. They comforted me better than any nurse or doctor had in our entire year-long, terrifying cancer journey. Even though we were only on the hem/oncology floor for a couple of days, I will never forget the kindness that this nurse showed me in one of the darkest hours of my life! I will hold them close to my heart forever.

Thank you for reminding me that there is still good in my world. Thank you for treating me like a human being instead of just someone you must help for your job. I will never forget you!
