Brieanna Edstrom, BSN, RN
I was at Dublin Methodist for a bilateral DMX and DIEP flap reconstruction. After my surgery, I had the pleasure of having many wonderful nurses who all deserve recognition for the level of care they provided. One nurse in particular stands out: Brieanna "Bri" E.
Bri was the first nurse I remember having after my surgery, and it immediately felt like I had a friend (who just happened to be medically trained) taking care of me. Even more importantly, on Tuesday afternoon/evening, she noticed that my left breast was draining too much blood and began working with my oncology surgeon, Dr. R, to figure out what was going on.
Bri became my strongest advocate. When Dr. T came to assess the situation, he spoke to Bri in a manner I wish I had addressed at the time, repeatedly stating there was "0% chance of a problem." Despite this, Bri continued to monitor me closely and worked alongside the NP. Because of their persistence, my issue was addressed the very next day rather than Friday, which is what Dr. T had originally suggested.
To this day, my family and I still talk about how brave she was to speak up, insist something was wrong, and continue advocating for me even in the face of disagreement.
She also promised to come check on me the next day during a break from her training-and she did. I didn't have her as my nurse again, but I will never forget her.
For her courage, clinical judgment, and compassionate care, I believe she truly deserves the DAISY Award.

During my leader rounds, a patient shared heartfelt gratitude for Brieanna following an incredibly difficult experience. The patient had undergone emergency surgery and upon arriving to the unit, she learned that her mother had passed away.
In that moment of overwhelming grief, Bri responded with exceptional compassion. The patient described how Bri embraced her in a warm bear hug, allowing her to cry (well, sob) and process the devastating news. Brie stayed with her, listened, and offered comfort as the patient shared her grief.
The patient expressed that she could truly feel Bri's compassion and presence during the time. "Others would just tap your shoulder and say, 'there, there,' but Bri really felt with me and was there for me." She will be forever grateful for the kindness and support Brie showed her.
