I have dubbed this nurse as the Pollyanna of nursing. She is everything those in nursing should aspire to be. Beyond being pleasant, beyond being caring, and compassionate all the time she crosses the threshold of my room, she is genuine. She takes the time to educate her colleagues, and she takes the time to ensure her patient understands their treatment. I watched as she instructed a student. Her instructions were so clear that a layperson could understand, and she always remained professional and engaging. This nurse took the time to educate me and help me understand my condition, my treatment, and the how and why certain things were happening. She answered my family’s questions in a manner that showed how much she cared. After being in her care for a shift, I realized that she loves what she does, and that this is not a job but a calling. As she goes about her shift, she leaves a trail of JOY.
