He built a rapport with the patient that others struggled to achieve, gaining their trust through consistency, empathy, and genuine human connection.
I am honored to nominate Brien Nash, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of his exceptional dedication, compassion, and clinical excellence in caring for one of our most complex psychiatric patients.

From the moment this patient was admitted, it was clear that this case would require an extraordinary level of commitment, patience, and creativity. Brien stepped forward without hesitation, offering his time, expertise, and emotional resilience to ensure the patient received not only safe and effective care but also dignity and compassion.

Over several weeks and months, Brien dedicated countless hours both during and outside of his scheduled shifts to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in developing and revising an individualized behavior care plan. He demonstrated deep clinical insight in understanding the patient's unique triggers, communication needs, and behavioral patterns. His input was pivotal in creating strategies that minimized distress and promoted stability for the patient.

In moments of escalation, Brien remained calm, grounded, and consistently therapeutic. He built a rapport with the patient that others struggled to achieve, gaining their trust through consistency, empathy, and genuine human connection. He advocated fiercely for their needs and ensured their voice was included in their own care planning whenever possible. His efforts not only led to significant improvements in the patient's behavior and engagement but also created a safer and more supportive environment both for staff and patients.

The ripple effect of his compassionate leadership was felt by everyone involved in the case. Brien embodies everything the DAISY Award represents. His clinical skill is matched only by his humanity, and he serves as a role model for trauma-informed, patient-centered care. We are fortunate to have him as part of our team, and I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.
