The Operating Room is often overlooked because our patients are out of it due to anesthesia, so it is difficult to be recognized for going above and beyond. But Brisia is an exception to this because she is an exceptional nurse who's caring and compassionate behavior is recognized by the patients she serves, their families, and the perioperative staff. Brisia goes the extra mile every day as witnessed in her compassionate interaction with her patients and family. Surgery can be a frightening process for anyone but Brisia is capable of allaying the fears and calming the anxiety with her informative and positive attitude that puts them at ease sometimes to the point of laughter. Her kindness is contagious and everyone loves her from the anesthesia team to the surgical team.
Brisia volunteers to orient and develop new staff as a Perioperative Preceptor for our Periop 101 program and is readily available to support struggling staff adjusting to the surgical environment. Her support is done in a patient, caring, and nonjudgmental manner.
Brisia is flexible in meeting the needs of the department. She never complains about an assignment, comes in early for early starts, and willingly takes her colleagues' calls to help them out. She is a role model and inspiration for others particularly the next generation of nurses in the OR. Her professional demeanor when bringing forth safety concerns is supported by her recommendations based on sound evidence-based practice. It is because of the many positive facets of the individual that make her a true DAISY Nurse.
