My mom was admitted to the hospital with a severe vitamin disorder that caused some damage to her brain. It severely impacted her memory and ability to make decisions for herself, and caring for her became very trying very quickly because of her confusion and mental state. My mom is divorced, and as the oldest of my siblings, all the decision-making for her care fell to me. I had no idea what was going on with her or what to do, but Brit was with us every step of the way. Brit not only cared for my mom with compassion and much needed tough-love, but also sat with me during some of the hardest conversations of my life to make sure that I was ok too. She patiently took the time to explain what was happening to my mom, and never shied away from the "tough" questions. She was my literal shoulder to cry on when my mom was unable to be that for me and cared for me with as much kindness as she did for my mom. She took the time to get to know me and my family and helped us all through a very dark time. She went above and beyond what is to be expected of a nurse, and I would not have been able to get through that time without her care.
