As you can imagine, this entire experience was very traumatic. But now, as I look back, I’m so grateful for a wonderful nurse who gave us comfort, hope, and compassion.
My husband initially came to the emergency room on Thanksgiving evening with severe neck and back pain. Five days later, we returned for increased pain. Tuesday night, he was admitted to the hospital, and Brittanua was his admitting nurse. She was so nice to me and knew that we both were exhausted after so many days of dealing with my husband’s pain. We had had no rest, and he was so agitated. (He could not get any relief from the pain). She took charge of him with so much compassion and decisiveness. She took just as good of care of me (I had not slept for five days, and she could tell that I needed some attention as well). She suggested that I go home to rest and that she would take good care of my husband. The next morning, when I arrived, my husband had had an MRI and was scheduled for another one before he was transported to St. George. My husband ended up dying not long after of meningitis. As you can imagine, this entire experience was very traumatic. But now, as I look back, I’m so grateful for a wonderful nurse who gave us comfort, hope, and compassion. She was a “brightness” in a rather dark time.
