Brittany was assigned to a socially complex patient for the second day in a row. Knowing how challenging and emotionally exhausting her shift may be, Brittany started out by looking for a plan. I observed her walking into the patient’s room with a smile and high energy in an effort to keep the patient’s spirits high. Knowing how down her patient was, and how long she’s been confined to her room, she decided to take her on a tour. Not only did Brittany take her patient to each window allowing her to get a glimpse of our views, she took her to the outdoor balcony and allowed her to feel the warm breeze. Though confused, you could see the smile on this patient’s face. This is a great example of how positive energy allows nurses to go above and beyond but also not allow for complex situations to dictate our day. Kudos to Brittany
